A new, local landmark where London café meets European terrace.
A classic, unpretentious London cafe meets a modern bistro, situated in an old Victorian tram store.
The open kitchen is inspired by modern bistros, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner menus, alongside a simple and concise cocktail menu, as well as a range of modern wines from independent, biodynamic and organic producers.
To leverage the site's unique shape and size, in particular the 360 degree vista, the use of external space was considered as an integral part to the overall scheme, inspired by European cafe culture and their approach to all-day terrace dining.
Throughout the interiors, three simple gestures work to bring this concept to life: timber panelling, a soft neutral colour palette with a bold red accent and a contemporary interpretation of Victorian tiling.
The addition of plants and greenery works to open up the interior and a mix of banquette and counter seating allows for flexibility within a small space. The building is anchored around an old oak tree and greenery cascades around the perimeter hanging from the living roof to create a green oasis in the heart of Southwark.
